Sycamore trees drop leaves, annoy homeowners
May 22, 2006
Sycamores all over the city are dropping their leaves. In some cases, leaves have completely covered lawns. It is not unreasonable for a homeowner to fill four or five garbage bags after raking.
This leads many homeowners to ask themselves of their tree is dying. The answer is no.
A condition called Sycamore Anthracnose is most likely the cause. Anthracnose is especially problematic after cool, wet spring seasons. This is a non-fatal disease, but homeowners risk premature leaf drop and branch dieback every year, unless they have the trees treated.
Certified arborists can inject Arbotect into the tree to protect it. The best time to treat anthracnose is in August. The product will protect the tree for two years.
