Soil Testing Importance
Request an Estimate for a Soil Test
Soil testing is important because it tells what nutrients are in the soil. This is important because turf grasses have minimum nutrient requirements. When the available nutrients in the soil are below these minimums, plant health is sacrificed. While it is true that good-looking grass can be produced with the right nitrogen program, long-term plant health cannot be assured unless other nutrients are present and the soil pH is near the preferred optimum range for the plant.
A soil pH that is:
- 6.5 or lower will require annual lime to raise the pH,
- 6.6 – 7.0 is ideal and requires no additional treatments,
- 7.1 or higher will require sulfur to lower the pH.
Our scientific approach to lawn care allows us to use the information we receive on your soil test and adjust your program accordingly. Re-testing your soil every other year will ensure that proper pH levels are achieved and maintained.
See your RYANPro for more information or to schedule a soil test.
