Lawn Watering
In the spring and fall, most lawns need about 1 inch of water per week. Use a rain gauge and monitor how much it rains each week. If it doesn't rain an inch, supplement the difference with your sprinkler. Usually watering once a week is adequate.
In the summer, your lawn needs about 2 inches of water per week to stay actively growing and healthy. The frequency and amount of water depends on the temperature. As the temperature climbs into the 80s, water every 3 to 5 days. When the temperature hits 90 degrees or higher, water every 1 to 4 days. Water when your lawn starts to lose its bright, shiny color and turn dull. This is the best indicator of when to start the sprinklers. If you water every day, put on about one-third of an inch of water each time. If you water every other day, put on a half inch of water each time. If you water every third day, put on about three-fourths of an inch each time.
We recommend early morning watering for the most efficient use of water and the reduction of disease problems.
