Benefits of Tree Fertilization Services
Like humans, when your trees are healthy they are more able to fight off disease and to withstand the fluctuations in temperature common in our Kansas City, Tulsa, Overland Park, St. Louis, Wichita, and Springfield locations. Tree fertilizer offers the macronutrients necessary to keep trees growing strong year after year. Young trees planted in the last 2 to 10 years will benefit the most from fertilization treatments, promoting healthy growth and development of the root system.
Do Your Trees Need Fertilizer?
Different types of trees need various soil nutrients to thrive. Depending on your Midwest location and property, your soil may need a little boost to provide the correct nutrients. If you notice any of the following, give your local arborist a call to inspect, diagnose and provide the solution you need.
- Small leaf or twig growth
- Dark veins in leaves
- Dead branches
- Yellow leaves
Commonly Applied Nutrients
You must take care to determine the best combination of nutrients for your trees or shrubs. That’s where our professional arborists come in. Our RYAN Pros can evaluate your trees, soil and climate and choose the best tree fertilizer to keep your trees healthy and growing strong. Slow (also called controlled) release fertilizers with a low salt index work best. The most common nutrients included in tree fertilizer treatments include:
Tree Fertilization Application Process
When RYAN fertilizes your trees and shrubs, we use a liquid fertilizer injected into the ground with our spray tanks. Our arborists use a pressurized injection gun with a 7-inch spike to get the fertilizer down into the root zone. We also treat the entire area under the trees’ canopy to ensure we cover as much of the root zone as possible.
Best Times to Apply Tree & Shrub Fertilizer
Because Ryan Lawn & Tree fertilizers are designed for the slow-release of nutrients over time, they can be applied in the spring or fall seasons — whenever the plants need it and when they can readily absorb the nutrients with their roots. Both seasons offer tree fertilization benefits — whether it’s recovering nutrients lost in the summer or supporting new fresh growth.
- Emerald Ash Borer applications are our longest-running treatment program starting when the trees first leaf out in late April and going strong through early October.
- Fall Deep Root Fertilizer applications usually begin in early November and continue through most of December.
- September through October is an excellent timeframe for treating Iron deficiencies in oak and birch trees.
