All of RYAN's Lawn Care Services in St. Louis, Missouri
Fertilization
To make your lawn as green and lush as possible, we feed it specific nutrients. While all turfgrass benefits from nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, your lawn craves a specific blend of these nutrients, as well as others. With our St. Louis lawn fertilization service, we’ll create an application-schedule and formula that fits your lawn’s needs.
Weed Control
Whether it’s the crabgrass and foxtails in the spring or the broadleaf weeds in the summer, St. Louis has its fair share of weeds. That’s why it’s important to go to the experts who have been studying and researching which products work best to eliminate those weeds. We examine your soil condition and type of turfgrass, and check on weather conditions before fertilizing your lawn.
Insect & Grub Control
Our grub control program protects your lawn against all types of white grubs that burrow through the soil, feeding on grass roots. A grub may be the larvae of the masked chafer, European chafer, Japanese beetle or other beetle species. We have the means to eliminate the most common insects in St. Louis and armyworms, cutworms, sod webworms and chinch bugs stand no chance. When these insects are left alone, they can eat your lawn’s roots and kill large patches of grass in your yard.
Fungus & Disease Control
Excessive amounts of moisture is one of the main causes of fungus and disease in your lawn. The best way to treat this is by getting the experts at Ryan Lawn & Tree to come out and identify which turfgrass disease your lawn is dealing with. Once we have an understanding of which disease is present, we can prescribe the proper corrective measures.
Soil Analysis
If your lawn is unresponsive to treatments, our crew will come out to run a soil test. This test identifies the pH imbalance, nutrient deficiencies and sodium levels in the soil. Depending on the results, our RYAN Pro will identify the issue and take proper steps to correct it.
Lawn Aeration
Your lawn’s roots need air to grow and survive. Our quality equipment for lawn aeration in ST. Louis, MO, will go over your lawn and pull out cores of your soil allowing greater airflow and deeper water infiltration. More air = healthier lawn.
Lawn Seeding
Aerating and verticutting are very important when seeding your lawn. Doing this allows us to apply the correct nutrient ratio and plant-based hormones to maximize growth. When our experts are finished seeding your yard, we will provide some helpful instructions on the best ways to water and care for your lawn.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How Do You Take Care of The Lawn in Spring?
Spring lawn care can have many steps, we recommend an initial lawn pickup or raking to remove any sticks or dead leaves from your yard. From there, lawn aeration and overseeding can help your lawn be healthy and full later in the spring and summer. Applying lawn fertilizer as well as pre-emergent herbicides can also help you have a thick, weed-free lawn throughout the Spring. Lastly, make sure your lawnmower is in good condition and get a mow in once a week, or every 3-5 days if your schedule allows.
How Do You Take Care Of New Sod Lawn?
On the day of your new sod installation, a good amount of water should be applied, which helps penetrate the sod and two inches of the underlying soil. We recommend staying off new sod until after the first mowing, and frequently watering it. After watering for about two weeks, the new sod should be ready for its first mow (unless you installed new sod in the winter, of which it may take more than two weeks to be ready to mow). Continue to water the new sod after mowing and then feel free to apply a lawn fertilizer after about a month or so.
How Long Should I Water My Lawn?
While every yard is different and there are many different types of lawns, we usually recommend watering your lawn for around 30 minutes at a time. In general, watering for 20 minutes at 3 times per week will get an inch of water on your lawn, and watering for 30 minutes at 3 times per week will get about 1 ½ inches down. Installing a sprinkler system for your St. Louis lawn can make this process much easier and save you a good amount of time, if you don’t have one set up already.
How Do You Mow A Lawn?
This may seem like a question with a fairly straightforward answer, but we do see people making common mowing mistakes on a consistent basis. If you mow incorrectly, you could damage your lawn, so it is important to know how to properly mow your lawn. First off, don’t cut your lawn too short, make sure your lawnmower’s height is appropriate so that you are never removing more than one-third of your grass height. Longer grass blades can grow and support more roots and develop a deeper root system that is better able to find water and nutrients in the soil, while shorter grass blades can make it easy for weeds to grow. We also recommend mowing when your grass is dry and varying your mowing pattern each time you mow.
How Often Should You Fertilize Lawn?
Our RYAN pros agree that a full lawn fertilization application is recommended at least 5-6 times per year. You also definitely want to feed your lawn when it’s growing most rapidly, like in springtime. If you have an automatic sprinkler system, we usually recommend that you should fertilize your lawn roughly every six weeks. If you do not have an automatic sprinkler system, once every two months is a good rule of thumb.
How Can You Kill Weeds In Lawn?
While there are tons of weed killer products on the market, we believe the best way to prevent weeds is to grow a thick and healthy lawn. However, even then some weeds can pop up. Applying a pre-emergent herbicide is a good proactive strategy to use in early springtime. Pulling the weeds is of course an option, and some people see good success with pouring boiling water on the weeds. If you find yourself overwhelmed by your lawn’s weeds, we recommend you contact one of our RYAN Lawn pros in STL today for a custom solution.
