Holiday Events in the Kansas City Metro Area This Dec.

The holiday season is known for being a hustle and bustle time of the year. Between holiday shopping and time with distant relatives, sometimes it feels like it rushes by. Slow down this holiday season and enjoy one of these activities that we at Ryan Lawn & Tree know you’ll love!

Whoville Holidays at the City Market Dec. 9-10, 16-17 (10 a.m. – 2 p.m.)Christmas in the Park at Longview Lake

Dress the kids up as a “Whovillian” and bring them down to the City Market to meet Cindy Lou Who and The Grinch in Cindy Lou’s Whoville home! Clearly, the Grinch’s heart has grown 10 sizes, as admission is free with the donation of 3 canned goods or a new toy in original packaging to help Whos in need!

Christmas in the Park at Longview Lake Now through Dec. 31 (5:30-10 p.m., open til 11 p.m. Friday/Saturday)

Now celebrating over 30 years of a fantastic holiday tradition, the Christmas in the Park features over 300,000 lights and 175 animated displays. The kids will love the displays, which include a golfing Santa, wreath-archway, and palm tree setup with flamingos (a reminder that summer isn’t gone forever).

The Crown Center Ice Terrace at Crown Center Square Now through January

A tradition for many Kansas City residents, the Crown Center Ice Terrace is back for another year! Enjoy the view of the mayor’s Christmas tree as you majestically glide across the ice, or while picking yourself up off it! If you happen to be doing the latter a bit too much, ice-skating lessons are available on select days. For more information on scheduling, click here.

Festival of Lights at Powell Gardens Dec. 1 through Jan. 7 (Thursday-Sunday, 3-9 p.m.)The kids will love ice skating!

This lighting exhibition, which has been created by the Powell Gardens Horticulture staff, features a botanically-themed lighting display that starts at the garden entrance and takes you through six themed gardens! Refreshment stations offer hot chocolate, wine, and beer at the beginning and midway through the displayed pathway. You can also stop in at Café Thyme to try the soup buffet. There is also an outdoor miniature train garden, with intersecting tracks, bridges, and tunnels!
