The St. Louis area is a great place to be this summer – with an array of family-friendly events that promises to keep adults, kids, and families busy all season long. Here are some activities that we at Ryan Lawn & Tree think will be especially awesome this summer, through the end of July.
Held at the Chuck Berry Plaza from 9am to 5pm, Chalk the Loop features accomplished chalk artists as well as novices of all ages who create their own chalk masterpieces on the sidewalks of the Delmar Loop. Cash prizes are awarded to participants in three categories, so families are encouraged to bring their best game.
Held in the Magic House at the St. Louis Children’s Museum, this event runs 6pm-8pm and features a full pizza party with Clifford the Big Red Dog. The kids will be able to shake hands with Clifford, and follow him on a tour of some of the museum’s latest exhibits. There is a $15 fee for members, $20 for non-members.
Beginning at the redesigned Kiener Plaza at Broadway and Market Street at 9:30am, the theme of this year’s parade is ‘Great Things are Happening’. This year’s parade features 12 high-caliber marching bands, 17 custom designed and unique floats, many helium-filled character balloons, and other entertainment venues that walk the entire parade route to the delight of the audience.
St. Louis’ biggest Independence Day Celebration, Fair St. Louis is held at Forest Park and extends for 3 days. This free admission event attracts thousands of visitors each year to listen to great music, to enjoy great food and beverages, and to join with others to celebrate America’s birthday. The Family Festival Zone is a main attraction for families and kids, where children can paint and do other art projects. The zone is located on the west side of Grand Basin. At this year’s fair, the Purina Incredible Dog Team will also be there for kids to meet. Fair St. Louis ends each night with a spectacular fireworks display – with the July 4th performance being the fireworks’ Grand Finale. Fireworks begin at 9:35pm each night.
Held at Hanley Park (610 West Hanley Industrial Court) and running from noon to 1pm, this event is catered toward families with children under 12 who enjoy crazy science experiments and science fun. Kids will get to make slime, explode chalk, and carry out other weird science experiments with their parents’ help. There is a $10 charge, and participants are encouraged to wear messy clothing.
